Lights on 1
Help us "Light It Up!" and bring permanent field lighting to Weston's turf field, Athletic Field 1

Weston Boosters is proud to launch LIGHTS ON 1 for Weston Athletics, a community-wide fundraising campaign to install permanent lighting on Athletic Field 1, the turf field on Wellesley Street, which serves more than 1,250 youth, middle and high school athletes.
The project, estimated at $525,000–$550,000, has been endorsed by the Community Preservation Committee for up to $400,000 in CPA funding which now awaits final approval at Town Meeting on May 4, 2026.

Fundraising in partnership with Weston's youth sports organizations, this Boosters-led campaign seeks to raise $150,000+ to advance the critical design and permitting phase before May in order to keep the project moving forward and positioning the lights for potential installation in summer 2026.

Help us "Light It Up!" Weston!
Together, we can move this project from vision to reality.

THE CHALLENGE
As daylight fades, so do opportunities for Weston athletes - from youth leagues to middle and high school teams.

Youth soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey practices are cut short as daylight fades. Games at both the youth and high school levels are routinely forced to end early. In the fall, the JV field hockey team cannot complete home games before sunset, and as daylight rapidly disappears late in the season, high school teams lose critical preparation time just as they head into MIAA playoff tournaments.

How do we keep Weston Athletics competitive when the sun sets before the final whistle?

Without change, the strain on our athletes will only grow.

Looking ahead, if:
-
Construction of the new fire station proceeds on Field 13 and Wildcat Field, Weston Athletics will lose 2 fields for soccer, flag football, and baseball; and
-
Construction of the new middle and high school begins as planned, 6-7 athletic fields will be temporarily unavailable for several years - placing even greater strain on already limited field space

Without action, these challenges will intensify.
THE
SOLUTION
Installing permanent lights on turf field, Athletic Field 1, on Wellesley Street is the most efficient and responsible solution.

Lighting will allow us to:
-
Extend usable field hours year-round
-
Complete games that currently end early
-
Increase practice flexibility across multiple sports
-
Maximize an existing community asset - without adding new fields
-
Keep Weston Athletics strong, empowering our K-12 athletes to train and compete at their very best long after the sun sets

The field will be lit using Musco LED lighting, the same technology currently used at Proctor Field, that are DarkSky compliant. These lights are designed with minimal light spillage, meaning the field, benches, and stands are illuminated while areas beyond the field remain dark, with only a soft glow at the edges.
THE
IMPACT
This project will support the approximately 300 youth lacrosse, 600 youth soccer and 120 youth field hockey players, as well as approximately 235 middle and high school lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and baseball players that use Field 1. Not to mention the fans and families, whose support from the sidelines makes every game possible - lights ensure they can cheer on their teams safely and fully, even as daylight fades.
One field. One project. Over 1,250 student-athletes impacted.

It will also benefit the Weston athletic department and coaches working to fairly allocate limited field time which will become even more limited once several fields are taken offline during future school construction.
Lastly, Lights on Field 1 will benefit the broader Weston community through expanded access for community groups and adult leagues to lit turf facilities after sundown.

Every season. Every year. Every athlete.
THE
GOAL
The total cost of the Lights On 1 project is estimated at $525,000–$550,000.

The Community Preservation Committee has endorsed up to $400,000 in Community Preservation Act funding that will cover materials and construction costs. Final approval of this funding will come for a vote at Town Meeting on May 4, 2026.

Through this Boosters-led campaign, we are raising $150,000+ to fund the critical design and permitting phase - work that must begin now and be completed before Town Meeting. Moving this phase forward ensures that, if CPA funding is approved, the project could proceed more quickly, potentially allowing the lights to be installed this summer and ready for the fall season.

Strong community support and participation in this campaign will be essential in the months ahead.

Boosters will keep the community informed on fundraising progress. If we exceed our goal, the additional funds will be used to cover maintenance and usage costs for the newly lit field, and any remaining contributions will support Weston Boosters’ broader grants program, which funds critical athletic program needs and facility upgrades for Weston Athletics.
